Ed Peter is the Group Chairman of Duxton Asset Management ("Duxton"). Prior to forming Duxton in 2009, Ed was Head of Deutsche Asset Management Asia Pacific ("DeAM Asia"), Middle East & North Africa. He was also a member of the Deutsche Bank's (DB) Group Equity Operating Committee and Asset Management Operating Committee. Ed joined DB in 1999 as Head of Equities and Branch Manager of DB Switzerland. In March 2001, Ed moved to Hong Kong with Deutsche Bank and was appointed Head of Global Equities for Asia and Australia, becoming responsible for all of Global Emerging Markets Equities in the beginning of 2003. In November 2004, Ed became Head of Asian and Emerging Market Equities for the new Global Markets Division. Ed started his career in 1986 in Swiss equity sales for Credit Suisse in Geneva. In 1989, he moved to S.G. Warburg with responsibility for the sale of Swiss equities worldwide. In 1998, he was appointed Managing Director with responsibility for the International Swiss Equities and Derivatives sales force. Mr Peter holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. Ed’s first foray into Agricultural investing was in 1999 and he remains passionately interested in Agriculture today. He is on the University of Adelaide’s Agribusiness advisory board, the University of Adelaide’s Wine Advisory board, and on the board of Wine Australia. Ed is married to Julie, a proud South Australian, and has 4 children. Ed draws and paints, makes noise on his saxophone, and can often be found flying around Australia in his bush plane when he is not in his veggie patch. His wife of 25 years still puts up with him and he has 4 children who would prefer if he didn’t grow quite so many veggies.

Stephen Duerden is the Group CEO and has over 25 years' experience in the Investment Management industry. Stephen joined Duxton as a co-founder of the business in May 2009 as the COO/CFO.

Stephen Duerden, CEO

Stephen Duerden (CEO) has over 27 years of experience in Investment Management and joined Duxton at its inception in May 2009. Prior to this, Stephen was the COO for both the Complex Assets Investments Team and the Singapore operation of DeAM Asia. Before moving to Asia Stephen worked for Deutsche Asset Management Australia, serving as a member of the Australian Executive Committee responsible for the management of the Australian business, with assets under management of approximately AUD $20 billion, and a member of the Private Equity Investment Committee overseeing the management of over AUD $2.5 billion in Private Equity and Infrastructure assets. Stephen has had exposure to a broad range of financial products and services during his career. He has been involved in direct property development and management, the listing and administration of REITS, as well as the operation and investment of more traditional asset portfolios. Stephen is currently a Director of the listed Duxton Water Fund Ltd as well as a director on a number of large Agricultural businesses. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting Finance and Systems with merit from the University of NSW Australia and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investments from the Financial Services Institute of Australasia. Stephen is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and a Certified Practicing Accountant.

Melissa Randall, Head of Business Development & Relationship Management, joined the Duxton Group in July 2014 with the establishment of Duxton Capital (Australia). She had been working with Duxton Asset Management since May 2012 in her capacity at Ironbark Asset Management, where she held primary responsibility for the Duxton mandate.  Melissa has over twenty years of experience in the finance industry, with over thirteen of those in asset consulting.  Prior to joining Duxton Melissa had worked within asset consulting teams, including as Head of Consulting, within Towers Perrin, Intech Investment Consultants, van Eyk Research and SQM Research.  Responsibilities have included providing investment advice and research to the investment committees of large corporate superannuation funds, semi-government bodies, financial institutions and dealer groups as well as membership of investment committees.  Advice provided has included the setting of investment objectives and asset allocation strategies, portfolio and manager configuration and manager research and monitoring.  Melissa has also worked within the BT Financial Group in Investment Manager Research.  Melissa holds a Bachelor of Economics (Hons) from the University of Sydney, a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investments from FINSIA and is also a Fellow of FINSIA.

Cathy Oster, Head of Legal, Governance and Reporting, joined Duxton Capital (Australia) in February 2019. Her responsibilities include providing legal and governance support to the Duxton Group. Prior to joining Duxton she worked in the resources sector with ASX listed Beach Energy Limited as a senior legal executive and company secretary. She also worked in private legal practice as a partner at Thomson Geer Lawyers and Piper Alderman Lawyers and consulted at DMAW Lawyers. Her experience includes corporate and commercial legal advice (capital markets, mergers and acquisitions) and company secretarial and governance services to public and private companies and their boards in Australia and in international jurisdictions across industry sectors including financial services, food and beverage, energy, resources, aged care, insurance, education and manufacturing.
Cathy holds a Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Laws (Corporate and Commercial) from the University of Adelaide. She has a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the South Australian Institute of Technology and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Corporate Governance from the Governance Institute of Australia. She is also a chartered company secretary.

Prior to joining the Duxton Group, Alister was CEO of Waterfind Australia, a leading water exchange. He has seen the full extent of the development of the Australian Water Market, from direct engagement via farming operations in the early 2000’s through to his time spent with Waterfind maturing the market over the last decade. Alister holds a Bachelor of Economics in International Agribusiness from the University of Adelaide.

Max Toovey, Portfolio Manager, joined Duxton in April 2014. His responsibilities include sourcing, analysing, executing and monitoring private equity investments in alternative assets. Since starting with Duxton, Max has executed and managed transactions in wine, livestock, horticulture and infrastructure, whilst also serving as Portfolio Manager for Duxton Water Ltd. Prior to joining Duxton, Max worked at KPMG in South Australia and Queensland within financial audit and also spent time working in China, Singapore and the Netherlands. Max graduated from Bond University with a double degree in Commerce (Finance Major) and Law. He has also completed the Strategic Finance Executive Program at Harvard Business School and the Senior Manager’s Program at Melbourne Business School.

James Shopov, Analyst

James Shopov joined Duxton in October 2016. Prior to joining Duxton, James worked in Corporate Finance and Accounting roles with Deloitte and Ernst & Young for 6 years. James is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ).

In addition, Lachlan has experience working on cattle stations in central Australia, exposing him to different environments of farming. Lachlan graduated from the University of South Australia with a double bachelors in a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) and a Bachelor of Business (Innovation and Entrepreneurship).
